about breathe
The (slightly middle class) v60 coffee analogy ☕
(Sorry if you drink instant coffee).
In my opinion, great design needs breathing space. And I’m not talking about the space around text, logo or image to allow those elements to stand out on a page or layout (but that’s also important).
A good coffee needs time to breathe. When you pour a little hot water over it, it needs time to bloom and a while longer (and more hot water) to drip through the filter. It’s the same with designing something well.
Breathing space is about taking time and thought. It’s about focus but also not focussing (a watched kettle...). I’m not saying that it will take weeks for me to come up with a design idea, but equally you’re never going to get a “3 designs in 24 hours for 5 dollars” approach, which is offered elsewhere…
There are plenty of places you can buy a jar of instant coffee.
Often my best designs start from a bean of a thought (see what I did there?) which I allow a chance to grow. I’ll take time understand the client brief, research the market and measure the competition. Then, often while out on a ride, or relaxing, I’ll cycle through ideas in my head - selecting those which I think might be worth developing - before committing them to paper or screen.
If you’re looking for effective, refined solutions that are delivered professionally and on time, then lets talk (over a cup of coffee?)
